Sylvia Cloutier, Taqralik Partridge, Nina Segalowitz, and Akinisie Sivuarapik have teamed up through the years with Geronimo Inutiq on numerous occasions for public performances, workshops, and one-off contracts.

As Geronimo Inutiq puts it: "By being open to - and allowing and encouraging me to remix the sound of their voice in my electronic music experiments, these ladies have helped push forward not just my career as a DJ and producer - but also how we can define and redefine our culture as contemporary Inuit."

"Inukstep" is both an album and the proposed coining of a genre that compiles demos, experiments, and outtakes of commissioned recordings - originally released on the web and radio between 2002 to 2016. These tracks have been performed in some of Geronimo Inutiq's dj sets and performances through the years.

As a genre "Inukstep" gets its name from dubstep - as well as having parallels to "pow-wow step." And while it does reference "pow-wow-step," this music existed concurrently to the development of this movement by friends from Turtle Island. It also recognizes "igloohouse" - a term and genre coined not too long ago by Inuk electronic artist/ friend Uyarakq.

Caught this on KEXPs new show "Sounds of Survivance". Due to the weight of emotion, it's not something I can just throw on as background music. But when I do, it inspires, it builds me up, and it breaks me down. Incredible hodgepodgenoodlehead
